Following the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez political rise ever since she joined  Justice Democrats  and actually knowing how hard she has fought to represent New York's 14th District despite going up against one of the most powerful Democrats in the country, Joe Crowley, who had campaign contributions from all of the large corporations you've ever heard of: Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Major League Baseball, Sony, Home Depot and State Farm are just some among hundreds of monumental corporate bodies, this was a victory which sent principled progressives into a whirlwind of positive emotions. To some, such as liberal political insiders and Democratic lawmakers, Ocasio-Cortez's name wasn't one they had even heard of before. Joe Crowley was seen as that much of a sure thing that partisan Democrats and prominent so-called journalists never even bothered learning his opponents name. A rather amusing Twitter account by the name of "The DM Reporter" which details the bigoted ramblings within both the Daily Mail newspaper and their comments section, allowed the racist nature of people who read the Mail to be laid bare. The Mail decided to discuss Nazi-era propaganda pictures attempting to show Adolf Hitler's apparent tender-hearted personality. Now, to be fair to the Daily Mail on this one particular instance, it wasn't the article which attempted to sympathise with Hitler and how he was portrayed, but their readers. The Daily Mail comments section isn't the most reasoned place as it is, but when you throw in one of history's worst villans, you should expect widespread condemnation, no matter your political leanings, Mail readers decided to insinuate that there was a media smear operation against Hitler, and he actually wasn't all that bad. Polls that were undertaken by polling organisation Gallup have produced some rather worrying signs for both major political parties in America and good news for smaller, lesser known parties. The polls, which were published in January 2018, show that the number of Americans who indentify as Independents has seen its largest ever increase a year out of a presidential election. As you can see pictured above, the number of Independents has been increasing sharply since Gallup's recording began pre-1989, and very rarely dipping below the numbers of Democrats or Republicans. Gallup also mentions how decreases in Independents is usually a result of people choosing to back the candidate with either a (D) or (R) next to their name as they vote for someone that resembles their ideas as closely as possible.
