A little while back we wrote about Joe Biden's gradual decline in the polls against current President Donald Trump, ranging back from before the Democratic Primary even took place, during the primary, and now that Biden has become the Democratic nominee. Biden enjoyed leads of eighteen points in a large number of polling matchups leading up to the Democratic Primary, and his polling advantage began to slowly erode as the primary went on, with Trump slightly ahead in some polls. Losses in the Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada contests cut into Biden's lead against Trump, as did his constant gaffes on the debate stage and in interviews, as well as the fact that he is still dealing with sexual assault allegations from Tara Reade, which haven't been concluded or even reported on in months. According to the RCP polling averages , Joe Biden still maintains a five point polling lead over incumbent President Donald Trump. However, since this time last year, Joe Biden's polling advantage is slowly crumbling and we're still six months away from the election. Biden, before the primary even started, was seen by many within the Democratic Party to be the best bet to defeat Donald Trump and continue the Obama legacy, once again going with the same strategy that lost them the election in 2016. A few polls were conducted over the last couple of years, asking people whether they would vote for Joe Biden or Donald Trump and the results were very favourable for Biden, routinely coming out fourteen points ahead, with a high of eighteen points ahead of Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have long been seen as friendly competitors vying for the same base of support, with Warren entering the race being seen as a tough blow to Sanders' presidential aspirations. However, as the race has heated up Warren has repeatedly attacked Sanders for supposedly not being a unifying figure within the party, has gone after his supporters and their supposed bad behaviour online and has more recently said that she would be a better president than Sanders as she would be able to get more done while in office. Jim Messina, a former President Obama and UK Conservative Party adviser has recently come out against Bernie Sanders and claimed that the Vermont Senator would not be able to win a general election against sitting President Donald Trump and further mentioned that Democrats would "struggle" if Sanders was the nominee. So, who exactly is Jim Messina and why should we trust his opinion? Messina was hired as Obama's national chief of staff in 2008 and was key in his election victory that year as he controlled a $750M budget and also worked for Obama's 2012 campaign but subsequently left in 2011 and begun giving paid corporate seminars and speeches to companies such as Apple, Facebook, Zynga, Google, Microsoft and DreamWorks. Recent reports have been released, supposedly from people within the Warren campaign, claiming that during a 2018 private meeting over dinner between Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Sanders told Warren that a woman could not win the presidency in 2020. According to the releases, the two discussed their 2020 plans and both agreed that they both planned to enter the presidential race and Warren mentioned if she thought a female candidate could win the presidency, to which Bernie supposedly told Warren that a women wouldn't be able to win in 2020. Hours after initial news reporting on the subject Warren released a statement in which she stated that Sanders told her that a woman would not be able to win the presidency, leading to claims of sexism and news reports claiming that Sanders has always had a "gender problem". Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party experienced their worst result since the 1935 general election, losing 60 seats. The majority of the losses coming in England from areas with over 50% of voters wishing to leave the European Union as well as a few seats in Scotland as the Scottish National Party delivered a message to the UK that they were seeking another independence referendum and wish to remain in the European Union. Despite this, the future looks extremely bright for the Labour Party and progressive politics in general. This week the British public will head to the polls for the third general election in four years amid plenty of Brexit uncertainty. John Delaney and his ability to be shamelessly and wholeheartedly beholden to private insurance companies have found something new to exploit: the two mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, both of which happened at the beginning of August just hours apart and left 32 people dead. Delaney was given ample time during the past two Democratic primary debates to lay out his proposals, in which he was laughably seen as the rational moderate, when in reality he was just arguing for the status quo. A lot can be said about the current President of the United States, Donald Trump and his basic understanding of science and scientific consensus on dividing issues such as climate change and the supposed adverse effects of vaccinations. Most responses involve ridiculing his proposterous statements. During the November midterm elections Bernie Sanders' Vermont Senate seat was up for grabs and he had to fend off more challengers than usual this time around as two extremely anti-Bernie Hillary Clinton supporters wanted to put a "REAL Democrat" in the Senate but instead they failed miserably. The first of the candidates is Jon Svitavsky , an activist for the homeless population of Vermont. While this may make Jon a somewhat attractive candidate, further research shows some rather troubling statements from Svitavsky. The Democrat has labelled notable black politicians Ben Carson and Condoleeza Rice as "Oreo's" - meaning black on the outside and white on the inside. Perhaps more troubling is the fact that he states that Rice should be "hung from the neck until she dies". With days to go until the September 13th Democratic Gubernatorial Primary between Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon, the Cuomo campaign has been accused of dirty, tacky politics. A recent campaign mailer was sent out to voters which smeared Nixon as being "silent on the rise of anti-Semitism". The mailer attempted to smear Nixon by suggesting that she supports Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), a global campaign aiming to boycott Israel until they are complying with international law. One small problem here is that Cynthia Nixon doesn't support Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions. Another way in which this ridiculous campaign mailer lied about Nixon is that it suggests that she opposes government funding of yeshivas, which are private religious schools mainly attended by New York's orthodox Jewish population. The Democratic Party have seemingly decided against being the party of the average, everyday American and have instead chosen to represent the fossil fuel industry in a shocking turn of events. Just kidding, this is exactly who the Democratic Party are and have been for a long time. Way, way back in June 2018, The Hill  reported   that Democrats would no longer accept donations from fossil fuel companies. The motion was introduced by Christine Pelosi, a member of the Democratic National Committee and daughter of House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), this was a proposal that would galvanise both progressives and environmental advocates. The proposal went after fossil fuel corporations, stating: "Fossil fuel corporations are drowning our democracy in a tidal wave of dark oily money; they have deceived the public about the impact of climate change, fought the growth of clean renewable energy and corrupted our political system." Hillary Clinton supporters have a new theory as to who put Donald Trump in the White House: Hillary Clinton herself. These are the very same people that have spent the last two years blaming Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein, Russia, sexism, and non-voters for their loss but have now flipped and claim that Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democrats knew what they were doing all along and that purposefully losing the 2016 election was a part of an extravagant scheme. Whether you believe Donald Trump managed to elevate himself into the Oval Office using Russian hacking efforts - which is actually the making of awful internet memes to 'sway' voters - and evading the eyes of the numerous American intelligence agencies and managed to remain in office for nearly half of his first term or not, why on earth would you vote to give an "illegitimate president" an increased military budget? Hillary Clinton's most ardent supporters really are incredible, any political objection to Hillary is a result your deeply held misogyny, she was apparently "entitled" to each and every vote from those who described themselves as anything else but a Trump supporter, any legitimate criticism of her or her politics is the result of "Russian disinformation campaigns" and now Hillary is apparently of the same moral standing as notable religious figures. Following the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez political rise ever since she joined  Justice Democrats  and actually knowing how hard she has fought to represent New York's 14th District despite going up against one of the most powerful Democrats in the country, Joe Crowley, who had campaign contributions from all of the large corporations you've ever heard of: Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Major League Baseball, Sony, Home Depot and State Farm are just some among hundreds of monumental corporate bodies, this was a victory which sent principled progressives into a whirlwind of positive emotions. Bernie Sanders often deals with objections to his presidential aspirations from all sides of the political spectrum, those on the Right who believe Sanders wants to turn America into some kind of Communist dictatorship, Centrist Democrats who label Bernie as racist, sexist and unable to win a general election, with people from the Left who suggest that he isn't progressive enough. However, one particular critique of Sanders is both extremely exaggerated and in some cases, a flat out lie. Ever since Jeremy Corbyn delivered a hung parliament in the 2017 UK General Election, his and Labour's popularity rating in the polls have been surging, but unfortunately so have the smears both from the center and right-wing. Ever since Oprah Winfrey's moving speech at the Golden Globe Awards last week, Centrist Democrats have been raving about the possibility that the actress and talk show host challenges Donald Trump for the Presidency in 2020. Should you decide to torture yourself and delve into political social media, you will be met with two warring liberal factions - Loyal Democrats and Progressives. Much of the debate between the two factions surrounds Bernie Sanders, with 8% of registered Democrats claiming to actively dislike the Vermont Senator.
