Why The Labour Party Lost The UK Election

Whichever way you approach the recent UK election, it would be fair to say that the Labour Party experienced a drubbing, resulting in a loss of 60 seats and handing the Conservative Party a large parliamentary majority. There has however been a fierce debate surrounding the reasons for Labour’s defeat, reasons ranging from Brexit, Jeremy Corbyn himself or supposedly racist voters. This debate has deeply spilt the two main factions of the Labour Party, between moderates and progressives. Blairites vs Corbynistas if you will. Moderates place the blame solely at the feet of Jeremy Corbyn, his supposed anti-semitism and poor electability. There Are More Food Banks Than McDonald’s In The UK

This week the British public will head to the polls for the third general election in four years amid plenty of Brexit uncertainty. The Conservative Party are leading in the polls while Labour are hoping that changing who traditionally comes out to vote will lead them to victory.  There have been many scandalous moments that should have sunk the Conservative Party, such as rebranding their Twitter account into a fake fact checker during an election debate, editing an interview with Shadow Brexit Secretary, Keir Starmer, in a bid to mislead voters on his answers and their promise to recruit 50,000 NHS nurses, when it was revealed that nearly 19,000 of those won’t be new nurses, they will be retrained from other areas of the NHS instead.
