Is Donald Trump chosen by God?

The short answer to this question is - hell no . These are two characters who could not be more different as one prefers to feed the poor while the other takes away Meals on Wheels from the elderly. Personally, I believe Donald would be closer to the Old Testament God as opposed to the New Testament God, as is evidenced by Trump wanting to kill the families of terrorists (innocents) and God killing people he deemed evil via a flood. God chose a man who wanted to do the VERY DEFINITION OF TERRORISM? God chose a man who wanted to kill innocent people? Blow me. Donald Trump and God, a comparison only the craziest right-wing political 'thinkers' can make, whether or not you believe in God the disparities are clear as day and to compare a man who mispronounced "Second Corinthians" as "Two Corinthians" to our supposed creator, is just laughable. Now if you are a religious person, you have the belief of God being responsible for all of mankind, thus be

My Worthless Opinion On The Abortion Debate in America

After having a 2am Twitter argument with some people behind accounts with fake profile pictures - you know the type - on the topic of abortion rights, I noticed something incredible from these particular lovely humans on the pro-life side of the debate - they HATE facts. Oh and Science too, they hate that stuff. I personally wasn't going to use this blogs twitter page to engage with many people but something compelled me to tell them that women should be able to control their own bodies, because some people literally disagree with that statement. As I was reading an ABC Politics tweet regarding the Tomi Lahren pro-choice debacle, I happened to see a reply essentially stating that this person with the fake picture believed it's 'hard to be a conservative advocate and find killing babies acceptable' and havoc engulfed my Twitter feed moments later. As I responded with what I thought was a particularly witty comeback of, 'Also hard to advocate for small governmen

Jeffrey Lord: 'Think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of health care'

Political commentator and Team Trump professional bullshitter Jeffrey Lord decided to compare Donald Trump to Martin Luther King Jr - yes we are comparing a man who brags of grabbing women's private parts to a champion of the fight for civil rights - Lord actually gets paid by CNN to defend Trump, but who even thinks of this crap? "Think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of health care," Mr Lord somehow saying this with a straight face as he defends Trump's action of attempting to take away Obamacare subsides from the poor. How noble of him. Martin Luther King Jr is a hero whose fight for equality ended up costing him his life, a man who used non-violent protest in order to promote the voices of the people who were treated as being unequal. This is a man who was at the forefront of a revolution on the way we perceive the issue of race and working towards ending the suffering of African Americans who were treated as sub-human simply for being born with dar

Harvard Students vs Fox 'News'

In one corner we have Harvard University, which is widely regarded as one of the best learning institutions in the world according to the ARWU World University Rankings, whose notable alumni include Presidents ranging from 2nd to 44th, these are: John Adams (2nd), John Quincy Adams (6th), Rutherford B. Hayes (19th), Theodore Roosevelt (26th), Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd), John F. Kennedy (35th),  George W. Bush (43rd) and 44th President Barack Obama while his wife Michelle Obama also attended the University 3 years earlier. To make this fight even more lopsided, Harvard has also produced greats such as Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and the Founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg. This list also neglects to mention the countless economists, historians, mathematicians and scientists, which obviously shows that Harvard is responsible for producing a number of the greatest intellectuals of our time. In the other corner we have a rig

New Mexico bans school 'Lunch Shaming'

As someone who hails from a low income family who couldn't always afford the required amount for school lunches and used a Free School Meals Program, a story about children who are not only in the same boat but are being humiliated for being in the same situation I found myself in only a few short years ago really hits home. Lets start with the positives, New Mexico Appleseed, which is a non-partisan, non-profit organization who, in their own words, are trying "to bring forward systemic change that yields permanent or long term improvement for the poor and underserved", announced a bill called The Hunger-Free Students Bill of Rights (SB374), that will shield children from unnecessary punishment because their family has been unable to pay their school meal debt in the state of New Mexico. The Bill was co-sponsored by Democratic State Senators Linda Lopez and Michael Padilla and passed a 30-7 vote in the Senate at the beginning of March, having passed the House of Repre

Should critique of First Ladies and Family Members be off limits?

Family members and spouses are often pulled into the political battleground as their significant others begin the journey of hopefully becoming President of the United States. This is something we see occur frequently because of affiliation to the candidate rather than matching political beliefs, as close family are seen as responsible for the rise of a political figure that they don't agree with - as we see with right-wingers holding animosity against Michelle Obama because her husband Barack is 'coming to take our guns and put us in FEMA Camps', supposedly. Whether the hopeful Presidential candidate is Democrat or Republican, there have been numerous tasteless jabs at politicians families and spouses who are merely along for the ride, this including 2016 defeated Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders wife Jane Sanders. Mrs Sanders was the target of several pro-Hillary and Trump-supporting twitter accounts who decided that she needed to be taken down a peg and

About Progressive Political News

Progressive Political News is an independent blog which covers recent political news, mainly focusing on UK and US politics. This may sometimes include news from elsewhere. We have just one writer here currently but are looking to expand and potentially have others contributing to our blog, here's hoping. I'm Joshua Stead and I started Progressive Politics on the 7th of April 2017, as I felt I could provide a worthwhile perspective on the major political goings on and would be able to interest readers with our content. When I began writing the articles I wasn't sure if they were appealing or of substance as it had been my first time trying something like this but the feedback I have gotten has been incredible and it has most definitely enabled me to become a better writer. We would love to become a progressive blog that people will be able to use to form their political opinions on major issues and use it as a source of trustworthy news, much like The Canary or Skwa
