After having a 2am Twitter argument with some people behind accounts with fake profile pictures - you know the type - on the topic of abortion rights, I noticed something incredible from these particular lovely humans on the pro-life side of the debate - they HATE facts. Oh and Science too, they hate that stuff.
I personally wasn't going to use this blogs twitter page to engage with many people but something compelled me to tell them that women should be able to control their own bodies, because some people literally disagree with that statement.
As I was reading an ABC Politics tweet regarding the Tomi Lahren pro-choice debacle, I happened to see a reply essentially stating that this person with the fake picture believed it's 'hard to be a conservative advocate and find killing babies acceptable' and havoc engulfed my Twitter feed moments later. As I responded with what I thought was a particularly witty comeback of, 'Also hard to advocate for small government but then claim the government should tell women what to do with their bodies' which is alike to what Tomi decided to say on The View. The fake picture people did not see the irony in my responses however and I became bombarded with tweets about how I'm morally wrong for wanting to kill children. However, I had science research I could read and bring to the table, which really makes me wonder why people don't read more before spreading their bullshit opinions.
After a back and forth of telling me how depraved of morals I am, they decided to drop some 'knowledge' on me and how letting a woman do as she chooses will mean she should be charged for murder as these dense people claim having an abortion is akin to killing a full grown human being - one delightful gentleman literally asked "people with down syndrome don't have fully functioning brains, is it okay to kill them?" The short answer to that is: no. As he is equating a literal living human being with something that hasn't yet been formed, see the conundrum here? Claims were thrown about saying children in the womb are able to begin to feel pain at around 45 days into a woman's pregnancy as this is when a heartbeat first occurs and as such is believed having an abortion at this time is immoral because this will cause pain and suffering to the child. *Donald Trump voice*: "WRONG!"
Using the internet to actually research the topic rather than apply my feelings to the situation, I managed to come to the conclusion that I'm actually moderate on the issue of abortion. Reading the articles I found which are solely based on the science, and now understanding that although a child may have a heartbeat at roughly 6 weeks into a pregnancy, the fetus cannot feel pain at this stage, as it has still yet to go through the stages of fully forming all the neurons and receptors.
Taking all of this into consideration, I personally am centrist when it comes to the issue of abortion. Do I believe there should be abortion services provided so women can get the care they need professionally? Yes. Do I believe abortion should be banned? No, but maybe limited. Basically I believe at the stage of a fetus being able to fully feel and has created all the Nerves, Neurons and Receptors necessary that it would be in some form of pain and if the fetus could survive outside of the womb then abortion should hopefully not be undertaken.
Of course there are extenuating circumstances - in cases of incest, life of the child/mother, rape etc. In these circumstances abortion should be legal and safe so the mother is not put in harm due to her pregnancy, or having a rape victim carry a child is off the table completely.

- Receptors in the skin that sense an injury - 7.5 to 15 weeks into pregnancy.
- Neurons in the spinal cord that transmit pain signal to the brain - 19 weeks.
- These same neurons need to reach areas of brain which registers pain (Stem, Thalamus and Cerebral Cortex) - 24 weeks.
- Nerves existence is not enough to register pain alone - fetus' anatomical (bodily) structures must also be functional - meaning the fetus has to be "awake" - 30 weeks.
