Donald Trump recently uploaded what might be his most popular tweet, a tweet depicting the time he featured on WWE attacking Mr McMahon - but with a twist. An image of CNN's logo was photo shopped onto the face of Mr McMahon, making it look like Trump was physically attacking the news organisation. Witty.
It has since surfaced however, that this clip was not created by Trump himself but by a Reddit user who has a history of white supremacist and misogynistic posts on the site. Some of the users most worrying posts include that he/she would carry "punch blades" when in Paris, in case he ran into a Muslim who "tried sh*t with me", as well as another post where he/she tried to open our eyes to a vast Jewish, Anti-Semitic conspiracy theory by posting a picture showing how a large number of the staff at CNN are supposedly Jewish, thus showing us how the evil Jews are taking over and brain washing us through CNN. Huh, you learn something new every day.
In regards to Trump's tweet, there is no doubt that it was disrespectful and you would usually hold a person of his stature in a higher regard, but this is exactly who Donald Trump is. He's blunt, in your face and attack minded - traits which are only good for certain occasions. The tweet was perhaps ill-mannered and uncalled for, but humorous at the same time.
Whatever you think of Donald Trump and his politics, he has been slammed in the media non-stop, in some cases he's right and others he's just factually wrong. Trump likes to cry wolf about the media, insisting that as of now his presidency has been "tremendous" and he's going to "Make America Great Again", so when we rightly criticise Donald Trump or a policy of his and he complains, that's him crying wolf. The problem with this is his supporters eat up everything he says - some still believe Pizza Gate is real and Obama wiretapped Trump Tower. As he continually blames the media or Democrat 'obstruction', there are those rare instances where Trump is 100% correct in his distrust of the media, and the previous crying wolf about unfair treatment now pays off for Trump, as his supporters only care about his victories and simply brush off anything that doesn't fit their idea of Daddy Trump.
I personally see no problem with the tweet, sure it was distasteful, but CNN aren't exactly a holier- than-thou news organisation and are always factual in their political coverage. One of the most blatant moments of CNN twisting the truth came when Chris Cuomo claimed that it was "illegal" for anyone outside of the media to view the leaked Hillary Clinton emails - showing that this isn't a simple case of CNN: Good, Trump: Bad.
I literally loathe Trump and his politics, but some of the criticism he has received has been ridiculous: claims he sleeps with Ivanka, feigning outrage at his "rude language", Jamelle Bouie saying "oppose Trump even when you agree with him!", twisting the TPP argument to make Trump's opposition of the deal to be questionable, when this is literally one of the only good things he has done.
As to the question "Is Trump now inciting violence?" No. He isn't. Trump has a previous history of inciting violence at campaign rallies, claiming "I'd like to punch him in the face", in regards to a protester. That is Trump creating a violent atmosphere, the CNN tweet was his attempt at making his base continue to believe that "CNN is ISIS", as some of his supporters claim, I don't know how CNN being a bad news channel means they are equal to ISIS, but then again most right-wing theories don't make sense.
There are so many things that Trump has done that the Democrats could use to attack him and win the 2018 Mid-Terms and the 2020 Election: Goldman Sachs in his administration, civilian casualties from his drone strikes (8 year old American girl included), broken promises on cutting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, he claimed to be in favour of a single-payer health care system. Every single one of these promises have been or will be broken if his budget and healthcare bill gets passed into law, but we spend our time outraged at a tweet, a TWEET, ladies and gentleman. Democrats have an easy path to retake seats and the White House if they actually adopt the progressive message of popular politicians like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Nina Turner and Tulsi Gabbard - but this would upset the corporate donors, so a Trump second term isn't completely out of the question.
