About Progressive Political News

Progressive Political News is an independent blog which covers recent political news, mainly focusing on UK and US politics. This may sometimes include news from elsewhere.

We have just one writer here currently but are looking to expand and potentially have others contributing to our blog, here's hoping. I'm Joshua Stead and I started Progressive Politics on the 7th of April 2017, as I felt I could provide a worthwhile perspective on the major political goings on and would be able to interest readers with our content.

When I began writing the articles I wasn't sure if they were appealing or of substance as it had been my first time trying something like this but the feedback I have gotten has been incredible and it has most definitely enabled me to become a better writer.

We would love to become a progressive blog that people will be able to use to form their political opinions on major issues and use it as a source of trustworthy news, much like The Canary or Skwawkbox.

As we are progressive in our beliefs, you may find our coverage has a left-leaning angle to it. However, that does not mean that we will not be objective in our reporting and call out hypocrisy that is found on all sides.

We hope you enjoy reading our content and also look forward to your feedback should it be good or bad! Should you need to contact Progressive Politics with any queries you may have, you can email us here or follow our Twitter us at @progressblogs - thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

MSNBC Host Lawrence O'Donnell Explains How The Democratic Party Treats The Left

MSNBC's "The Last Word" host Lawrence O'Donnell describes his politics as a "practical European socialist", which essentially boils down to being a nordic-style social democrat, usually in favour of a mixed economy with a generous welfare state and has defended his positions on MSNBC news shows that typically frown upon stepping outside the neoliberal bubble. O'Donnell is no progressive hero in the context of american politics, sometimes scolding progressive politicians whenever they mildly criticize the Democratic Party, such as when Bernie Sanders tweeted about having to take on the Democratic establishment as well as Republicans, O'Donnell decided to concern troll Sanders by claiming that the Democratic establishment wouldn't pass Sanders' proposals if he wasn't nice to them. Over the course of the last few months an old video of O'Donnell explaining how to move the Democratic Party further left and how the party treats the p...

Donald Trump's Own Pollster: Bernie Sanders Would Have Won

So, as it turns out, even Donald Trump's very own pollster has confirmed what progressives have been saying for over a year now: Bernie Would Have Won. This seemingly obvious statement has been disreputed by two groups of political loyalists - Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton supporters. Trump's supporters, who view Donald as some sort of God who has never put a foot wrong, find it laughable that a 'communist' Independent politician could defeat their dear leader. As for people who would bow down at the feet of Hillary Clinton - you'll be able to find them by the use of their #StillWithHer Twitter hashtag - prefer to use the rather childish defence of "WE WON! YOU LOST!"(although Hillary has now lost twice during a major election) in order to suggest Sanders would have suffered the same fate as Clinton during the 2016 General Election. The pollster in question, Tony Fabrizio, made the claim while speaking at a Harvard University Institute of Politi...

Does Donald Trump Think He's Winning?

A little while back we wrote about Joe Biden's gradual decline in the polls against current President Donald Trump, ranging back from before the Democratic Primary even took place, during the primary, and now that Biden has become the Democratic nominee. Biden enjoyed leads of eighteen points in a large number of polling matchups leading up to the Democratic Primary, and his polling advantage began to slowly erode as the primary went on, with Trump slightly ahead in some polls. Losses in the Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada contests cut into Biden's lead against Trump, as did his constant gaffes on the debate stage and in interviews, as well as the fact that he is still dealing with sexual assault allegations from Tara Reade, which haven't been concluded or even reported on in months. However, following Trump's abysmal handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the police killing of George Floyd and many other black Americans since then, the subsequent protests and further pol...
