Pro-Trump website 'Conservative 101' had penned a particularly dreadful article titled "Bernie Sanders Blames President Trump For White Nationalist Movement, Then He's Caught Doing...", and it is unfounded to say the very least. Hell, the writer couldn't even make the piece grammatically correct as one of the paragraph begins with the line, "despite how Bernie Sanders the mainstream media are portraying the situation", yes, that is a literal sentence in the article, told you that it's dreadful.
Anyway, the article is based on the premise that because Bernie Sanders has the support of the progressive political action organisation 'Our Revolution' and because Our Revolution sent out an email referencing how Heather passed away and to essentially fight back against the rise of white nationalism that we are currently experiencing and the fact that they had a link at the bottom of the email to ask people for donations - which, you know, is kind of how they survive as an organisation - means that Bernie Sanders himself is raking in profits, with Our Revolution being the middleman for the apparent unethical fundraising.
This is, to put it mildly, f*cking absurd. While Our Revolution did sprout from Bernie Sanders' 2016 Presidential campaign, Sanders in no way is the founder or even on the board of the group, let alone making profit from Our Revolution.
As for the question: Did Our Revolution aim to profit from Heather Heyer's death? No.
Our Revolution needs donations to survive as an organisation, so on the majority of their emails, you will find a donation request, most likely with a 'Donate Today' button at the bottom taking you to their website so you are able to contribute. Even political parties do this as they send out scaremongering emails about their opponents across the aisle, asking their members or supporters to donate to the cause and make sure the bad guys - depending on where you lie politically - aren't able to get into office.
This is what makes the targeted article on Bernie Sanders even more ridiculous, the Vermont Senator has his faults but this article isn't even grammatically correct let alone factually correct. People of any political persuasion will have at least one issue they disagree with him on. Being more progressive on Israel is one example, as he, along with all other seated politicians recently signed a congressional letter essentially defending Israel from outside criticism. Conservative 101 can disagree with Sanders too, but they shouldn't have to flat out lie to do so.
It could be argued that the placement of the donation on an email surrounding Heather Heyer's passing could be seen as distasteful and should have been left out of this particular email but in no way is it grounds to smear progressive groups and politicians, especially considering how the article isn't even true. The article cannot even argue how Sanders is directly involved in Our Revolution, how the group are using the death as a fundraising tool and how this relates to progressivism and Bernie Sanders as a whole, it's just a terrible article that is aiming to shift the attention on Trump's refusal to outright condemn the events of Charlottesville at the time.
Conservative 101 then link to a video of Bernie Sanders in front of some reporters asking him what they thought about Donald Trump's comments and Sanders basically alludes to the fact that Trump is somewhat complicit in the extremely quick growth of such groups - because he is. Donald Trump is in no way the cause of white nationalism in America, instead Trump is a symptom, one that needs to be fought in order to tackle this rise of white male victimhood effectively.
Oh, and if you think that Conservative 101 offer any more arguments or substance on this particular topic, they don't. Instead you're met with the end of the article and TWENTY SIX ADVERTS. These aren't even the good adverts on a website which shows you things you may like to buy, instead they show "Scotland Bitcoin Millionaire Shares Her Amazing Story" with a picture, of what I personally think at least, is an extremely attractive woman. Two of the twenty six adverts even repeat themselves, which I think is much worse than the terrible piece of writing I just had to suffer through.
