Televangelist Pat Robertson recently took a break from blaming natural disasters on gay people to attempt to comfort a Christian mother who wrote into Robertson's show, The 700 Club, to ask why God allowed her fifteen year old son to pass away in January 2017 and Pat decided to answer this question in his usual, horrific style.
The mother, Cristina, wrote in to Robertson on the 700 club in order to get some answers as to why God would take her son away when they have been nothing faithful to "their Lord". Her question was this, "My fifteen year old son was killed January 26th, 2017. My question for you is: why does our Father allow us to go through this pain and torment? As a mom, I do everything in my power to protect my kids from this. What is the point? I am confused and angry. Please help me understand. I have been faithful to the Lord alone, so why?"
We here at Progressive Political News want to send Cristina our best wishes and we hope that she is able to fully grieve for her son and is able to live a full life despite of this disastrous event.
Does Pat Robertson wish the same? Well, not so much. The seemingly 500 year old host, decided to suggest that perhaps God wanted Cristina's son to pass away in order to save him if he ever "took up drinking" or "moved away from the Lord".
Robertson's full answer doesn't do him any favours, however, saying, "These things happen, we live in a world of wickedness and God does not necessarily spare us from these things. He will teach us once we're in the difficult situation and will help us to overcome it, but not necessarily will he spare everybody. The loss of a child is a terrible thing, and that child at fifteen, maybe he was living for the Lord at fifteen, I assume he was. What would have happened ten years from now? Would he have started drinking or will he have gone away from the Lord, what would have happened? God sees the end from the beginning so He knows what will happen to that child and because He loves the child, He wants to bring him to heaven forever and He wants to spare him some of the bad things that will happen down the road."
Let's say we agree with Pat Robertson here, why isn't this the case in every scenario, why did God only take Cristina's son? If the reason why God took her son was that he may have sinned in the future, why not others? God could have taken homosexuals, adulterers, people who shave, wear mixes of different fabrics or eat shellfish, so why only Cristina's fifteen year old son after they had been faithful to God? Pat Robertson's answer only poses more questions.
Another key part within Robertson's answer is the part in which he completely contradicts himself, as he states, "He will teach us once we're in the difficult situation and will help us overcome it." If the 'difficult situation' was that he became an alcoholic, why not, ten years from now at age 25, allow Cristina's son to find God and lift him out of that situation, why take him away at fifteen if God supposedly waits until we are in a tough spot and then helps us through it? You make no sense whatsoever, Pat.
Unfortunately, Pat Robertson has been able to spout his nonsense for years without being challenged by his viewers and Cristina and her son are the ones who pay the price. I guess it's all okay as long as your viewers continue to donate to your show and your obscene wealth, hey, Pat?
