Ever since Jeremy Corbyn delivered a hung parliament in the 2017 UK General Election, his and Labour's popularity rating in the polls have been surging, but unfortunately so have the smears both from the center and right-wing. This sharp increase in, to borrow a phrase, fake news, has led many on the Left to label Corbyn as a man of mystery and many talents, one who is able to hide all of his so-called misdeeds from British Intelligence Services and become the leader of the UK's current opposition.
We will now take great delight at going through the most prominent smears that the Labour leader has faced and debunk them as best we can, because Jeremy clearly has a lot to answer for.
Jeremy Corbyn is a Communist
This is perhaps the most prominent smear against Corbyn as it's the fact that it's simply down to what your own personal interpretation of what a Communist actually is. For example, according to those on the Right in America like to claim that the Democratic Party is one made up of communists and that they also want to turn America into a Soviet-style state, while Democrats claim that political ideologies such as Socialism and Communism are "far to the right of Capitalism". Do we really need to go any further on how right-wingers like to throw around the word communism.
Corbyn was a supporter of the IRA
We touched on this ludicrous statement in a previous article. So, once again, you will be able to find images of Jeremy and Gerry Adams together, sure, but this was only once he was an elected member of parliament, so it was a professional visit as opposed to a personal one. He has also met with Northern Irish Loyalist leaders in a bid to get the ball rolling on a peace process and ceasefire.
Jeremy Corbyn is a anti-semitic Nazi
This is a more recent one, with Corbyn rightly being called out for comments on an anti-Jewish image, but then it gets more and more unhinged. The mural was anti-semitic, Corbyn admitted that and has since apologised and vowed to tackle anti-semitism. However, his decision to meet with a group of left-wing Jews named 'Jewdas' at a Passover dinner was met with outcry, essentially claiming that Jewdas were the wrong 'type' of Jew, whatever that means. Influential UK businessman, Alan Sugar, caused outrage when he mocked up an image of Corbyn sitting next to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, because being critical of Israel's actions make you a Nazi nowadays, obviously.
Jeremy Corbyn sold British secrets to Communist Czech spies
This particular smear led to Conservative MP Ben Bradley being forced to publicly apologise and donate an undisclosed amount of money to a charity of Jeremy's choice as well as covering the Labour leaders legal costs. Ben Bradley posted his apology to Twitter and the tweet has been retweeted over 55,000 times, more than all the Conservative Party's social media posts in 2018 put together. Furthermore, an analyst with the Defense Ministry of the Czech Republic, Radek Schovanek, who has spent 25 years researching documents from the now-defunct Czechoslovakia spy service and found no evidence that Corbyn was in contact with the communist country, let alone selling British intelligence secrets.
We have to call these tactics for what they are: political mudslinging. Jeremy Corbyn is extremely popular with the British public and because of this we have seen a vast increase in both the number of smears produced but also the viciousness of the accusations. All far-right media outlets such as The Daily Mail, The Express and The Sun have to do is put these accusations on the front page of their newspapers - which they do - and these lies will then be viewed by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people and will be used to form their political opinions, which shows how dangerous they are.
