The United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union has literally dominated the mainstream news cycles for well over three years now. You’ll hear the word “Brexit” likely within a few minutes of switching on virtually any news show.
The divisions within the country that led to Brexit (opposition to immigration, parliamentary sovereignty/opposition to globalisation) were the main reasons given to polling agencies and survey takers, which in turn led to the flourishing of another division surrounding Brexit: anyone who voted “Leave” is a far-right racist who hates immigrants and has no idea how an economy functions, and are poorer, less educated members of society.
But, with most insane hot takes, it has to go a step further. As you can see pictured above, our friend Laurence here is casually advocating for the genocide of any and all “Leave” voters. Quite how you can propose a genocide of any political dissidents and suggest that you’re morally correct is quite astonishing, I mean I’m all for political jokes and satire (leftists are all freeloading freedom-hating whiners who think everything is racist) but “joking” about killing 17.4 million people is honestly reprehensible.
Views like this are unfortunately rather prominent within anti-Brexit circles, as they deem any individual who voted to leave the European Union, no matter the reason they voted this way, as uneducated bigots who voted solely based on a hatred of immigrants. Admittedly, immigration was one of the main factors people considered when casting their vote to leave, but ignoring all other criticisms of the EU and overriding 17.4 million voters is extremely dangerous and anti-democratic.
One of the main arguments this group of people like to use in favour of a second Brexit referendum is that it’s actually more democratic, now that more members of the public have a greater understanding of what Brexit actually means and have had more time to form their opinions on the subject, but not Sally. Sally would prefer a situation in which her favourite politicians form a dictatorship and override the will of the British voters in order to force the United Kingdom remaining in the European Union. If all of this isn’t ironic enough, a quick glance at Sally’s Twitter profile show that she has recently complained about Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party not falling in line and endorsing a “People’s Vote”, even though, according to Sally, working people’s tiny minds are unable to make any important decisions.
