After President Trump and his administration's provocation of Iran led to the shooting down of an unmanned drone near Iran's airspace, several politicians have shown us where they stand on this administration's efforts to force a regime change war in Iran and remove the Ayatollah's from power. There were obviously a vast spectrum of opinions, from war hawks who pretend the drone was merely minding its own business by flying in and around Iran's airspace, do-nothing Democrats whose only problem with Trump attacking Iran being that he must abide by the rules and ask Congress nicely first, to anti-war politicians such as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren ridiculing Trump's obvious attempts at goading Iran, which he will then use as reason for the American military to invade Iran and take out the Ayatollah's. Marshae Jones, alleged to have "sparked the altercation" which led to the shooting, has been charged with manslaughter while the shooter has been freed. When women took to the streets in order to protest new draconian abortion laws proposed by several US states, notable conservative pundits insisted that the new laws weren't as bad as many women had feared and that they were just doing their moral duty to protect unborn children, but it’s doubtful Marshae Jones feels the same way. Jones was five months pregnant when she was shot in the stomach during an altercation with another woman and her fetus never survived the shooting. On Wednesday this week (26/06), Ms. Jones was charged with manslaughter in Jefferson County, Alabama after the police claimed that Jones was culpable because she initiated the conflict and " failed to remove herself out of harms way ." One of the main talking points used against Bernie Sanders and his supporters is that their lack of enthusiasm and support for Hillary Clinton in 2016 directly led to Donald Trump becoming president, with Sanders supporters being labelled as privileged and sexist for not backing Clinton, and yes that includes you misogynistic Jill Stein/Green Party voters! However, our favourite anti-Bernie Democratic loyalist, Sally Albright, now insists that it isn’t pivotal that you support the Democratic nominee in order to defeat Donald Trump, should Sanders win the 2020 Democratic nomination. Albright recently claimed that “ 4 more years of Trump would be better in the long run ” as opposed to a President Bernie Sanders. The United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union has literally dominated the mainstream news cycles for well over three years now. You’ll hear the word “ Brexit” likely within a few minutes of switching on virtually any news show.  The divisions within the country that led to Brexit (opposition to immigration, parliamentary sovereignty/opposition to globalisation) were the main reasons given to polling agencies and survey takers, which in turn led to the flourishing of another division surrounding Brexit: anyone who voted “Leave” is a far-right racist who hates immigrants and has no idea how an economy functions, and are poorer, less educated members of society.  But, with most insane hot takes, it has to go a step further. I personally think it would be fair to say that even many people on the Right don’t take Peter Sweden seriously, and essentially every leftist I know uses Peter and his tweets for comedic purposes. For example, there’s the time this extremely brilliant thinker tweeted that Sweden’s public transport system is communist, or his rant on the time someone told him that Swedish meatballs are actually from Turkey.. which they are. Admittedly this is relatively time-worn news, but because Conservative MP for Bromsgrove, Sajid Javid, has thrown his hat into the ring to become the leader of the Conservative Party since Theresa May’s recent resignation, it needs to be repeated. Javid has hilariously been compared to former American President, Barack Obama, by Forbes magazine, and like basically any Tory Member of Parliament, he has been embroiled in controversy throughout his career. Javid has previously made absurd statements such as labelling progressive, Corbyn-supporting, activist group, Momentum, as ‘neo-fascist’ and had to backtrack on a tweet he posted claiming that Jeremy Corbyn is linked with Holocaust denial. In comes renowned conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones and his “news” show Infowars, both of which have been banned from more platforms than I’ve had hot dinners. Progressives have claimed that POLITICO’s latest hit piece on Bernie Sanders and his net worth could be considered anti-Semitic and it’s hard to disagree with the evidence shown. Sanders recently released his tax returns which showed that his net worth could be up to $1.9M, and many anti-Bernie Democrats and cable news hosts - *cough ERIN BURNETT cough* - suggested that this would make Sanders a hypocrite, given how often you’ll hear Bernie railing against the 1%. Instead, what would make Sanders a hypocrite was if he suddenly changed his tune on rich people paying their fair share in taxes, but, spoiler alert, he hasn’t changed his message.
